The Porch Light

Journal

I walked home in the rain with my shoulders up, pretending I did not need anyone.

The street was quiet. My key felt heavier than it should.

Then I saw it — the porch light still glowing, soft and stubborn against the dark.

Someone had left it on for me.

Inside, a mug waited on the counter, still warm enough to hold.

No speech. No questions. Just a place that knew I would come back.

I set my bag down and let my shoulders fall.

For the first time that night, I stopped performing strength — and I let myself be held by home.
